Quality early education can change the trajectory of a child’s life.
We are a California 501(c)(3) providing global educational support to children and families impacted by displacement and poverty. Working closely with local teachers and international volunteers, PILA offers safe and innovative educational opportunities while preparing children for peaceful and engaged citizenry.
The Pedagogical Institute of Los Angeles (PILA), was founded in 2014 by a group of educators and local citizens who believe that all children are rich in potential and teeming with ideas and theories. We affirm that children, regardless of economic or geographic considerations, are entitled to an education that sparks curiosity, wonder and innate desire to make meaning in the world. To this end, we come together to support children and teachers in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles and in refugee settlements abroad.
We know that quality early education can change the trajectory of a child’s life. But we also know that quality can only be assured when teachers are prepared for the challenges they face, and when classrooms are adequately outfitted with engaging materials. PILA offers teachers the support they need to provide children with life-changing early childhood education. In short, we seek to light a fire to be passed from teacher to teacher to child – a fire that ignites a spirit of inquiry and a love of learning.
